Dario, founder of BloomySeeds, in Rome

Piazza Navona, Roma. Where the idea started.

I’m Dario. I sell Italian seeds in Ireland.

That’s the short version. Here’s the real one.

I moved to Ireland from Italy years ago. Spent a long time running restaurants and coffee shops in Dublin. Learned one thing that changed how I eat, cook and shop: the best meal you will ever make starts with what you grow, not what you buy.

The tomato you pick from your own plant at six in the evening and slice onto pasta five minutes later tastes nothing like the one that travelled 2,000 kilometres in a refrigerated truck to sit under fluorescent lights for a week.

Nothing.

2,000 km

Average distance a supermarket tomato travels to reach your plate.
Your garden? Six metres.

Why Italian seeds in Ireland?

Because they work. Italian varieties have been bred for flavour, not for surviving a supply chain. And the Irish climate, believe it or not, suits more of them than you would think.

We are the Official Irish Partner of Franchi Sementi, Italy’s oldest seed house. Founded in Bergamo in 1783. Seven generations of one family, selecting and improving seeds for over 240 years. We bring them directly to your door.

What we actually believe

No speeches. No “reconnect with nature” fluff. Here is what we think.

🥬 Growing your own food is cheaper than buying it.
€18 of seeds gives you €200 of vegetables. That is maths, not marketing.

⏱️ Growing your own food is faster than you think.
Radishes: 25 days. Lettuce: 4 weeks. Basil: ongoing from one pot on the windowsill.

🌱 Growing your own food is not difficult.
If the seed packet says “sow, water, wait,” that is genuinely all there is to it. The green thumb is a myth.

You do not need a garden. Six pots on a balcone, a window box, a grow bag by the back door. That is enough for herbs, salad leaves and cherry tomatoes all summer.

Welly to Belly

From your wellies to your belly. That is the whole idea. You grow it, you pick it, you eat it. Nothing in between that does not need to be there.

My wife and I run BloomySeeds from the Irish Midlands. We test varieties in our own garden before we sell them. If it does not grow here, we do not stock it.

We are not a lifestyle brand. We are not a wellness brand. We are an Italian lad in Longford who thinks you should eat better food, and that the easiest way to do that is to grow it yourself.

Thirty minutes on a Sunday. That is genuinely all it takes.
