Inspired by Franchi Sementi, Italy’s oldest seed house founded in 1783.
When to sow
March to May in Ireland. Start tomatoes and basil indoors in March or April. Sow rocket, radish and spinach direct from April. Courgette and cucumber go out in May when the ground is warm.
How to grow
One kit, one season, no experience required. Sow two or three varieties first, leave the rest for May. Every packet includes full instructions with Irish-specific timing. If a seedling dies, the packet usually has enough seeds to try again.
Recipe idea
Panzanella with what you grow. Tear two slices of stale bread, add three sliced tomatoes, a handful of rocket, fresh basil, a drizzle of olive oil and a teaspoon of red wine vinegar. Leave for ten minutes. That is the whole recipe.
