Physalis peruviana, commonly known as Cape Gooseberry, is a fast‑growing annual‑perennial plant producing golden, lantern‑encased fruits with a sweet, tangy flavour reminiscent of pineapple, mango and citrus. Highly ornamental and delicious, it is prized in both home gardens and gourmet kitchens.
The plant forms branching, softly hairy stems and delicate yellow flowers that develop into papery husks containing bright orange berries. Productive and easy to cultivate, it thrives in warm, sunny positions and well‑drained soil.
Ideal for fresh eating, desserts, jams, garnishes and decorative plating, Cape Gooseberry brings an exotic touch to any garden and kitchen.
